At least 3 million Americans, many of them Baby Boomers, are infected with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV). This report examines the projected direct medical cost effects of HCV infection on commercial and government payers as longer-term conditions like cirrhosis, liver cancer, and liver failure emerge in the infected population over the next several decades.
